Rylos

Mikko: Im Moment läuft hier alles sehr gut.

Mikko: Ich lebe in Helsinki.

Misca: Ich lebe in Lappenranta.

Riina: Ich lebe in Kotka.

Sami: Ich lebe in Kouvola.

Mikko: Twisted Sister, Helloween, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Edguy usw.

Misca: Astia-Studio-Sessions verliefen sehr gut.

Hello and welcome to Metal Affair!

Thank you for taking the time for the interview!

How are you? Hope everything is fine during the corona time!

Mikko: Everything is going very well here at the moment. The Corona has calmed down a bit but it is the same battle everywhere and I hope that this kind of common adversity also gives something good to humankind, but we´ll see.

Misca: Everything is going very well. Waiting for our new „Solarworks 2“ album coming out.

When was Rylos founded and how did you come together?

Mikko: I founded Rylos in 2013, when I looked in the mirror and asked myself „What am I as a musician?“ and what I saw was the boy who is listening to Twisted Sister, Helloween, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard and WASP. Right after that I decided that Rylos would be the best live band since the Twisted Sister. This statement is really big because TS was the best live act of all time… and needless to say I wanted Rylos to be even better. That was the first aim of Rylos and it’s music. Soon I started looking for the good lineup and now it’s finally established… it took a few years though.

Nowadays we also work with producers who help us with arrangements so that we can bring about our very unique Rylos music. But it always depends on what we feel and what that particular song needs.

What kind of metal do you play?

Mikko: We are basically a rock band, but we frequently like to use metal elements here and there in our music. The upcoming Rylos album „Solarworks 2“ leans more towards metal than the previous ones.

Not all of you come form Helsinki. Where are the other members come from?

Mikko: I live in Helsinki.

Misca: I live in Lappenranta.

Riina: I live in Kotka.

Sami: I live in Kouvola.

Is there any specific meaning behind the band´s name?

Mikko: Not much, it just sounds cool and arouses one’s imagination.

Your mascot is a carrot. Why did you choose it?

Mikko: The carrot is cool so why not 🙂

Did you play in another band before?

Mikko:  With many bands for over 20 years. For example Doodah, Evidence and Montage. Nowadays I sing in Rylos and prog rock band Minutian.

Misca:  Before I joined Rylos I had my own band called Lexiandawn and we released one demo.

Riina: I’ve played in many bands during the years. Last ones before Rylos were Alcantaria and Lionhide.

Misca: Drums, Riina: Bass, Mikko: Singer, Sami: Guitar

When did you start playing your instrument or starting to sing?

Mikko: I started singing at very early age. When I first heard the Twisted Sister’s Stay Hungry album, I knew what I wanted to do in my life. I’m still on that road and I love it.

Sami: I started playing guitar at junior high school and I played in few bands before joining Rylos.

Riina: Everyone else played guitar, so someone had to be a bassist, that’s how it went:)

Do you have an Idol who inspire you? Which Band influence you to your music?

Mikko: Twisted Sister, Helloween, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Edguy etc.

Misca: Volbeat, Entwine, Mokoma, Stamina and many more. The drummers who inspire me are Kai Hahto, Jari Sinkkonen, Joey Jordison, Teppo Veli and Janne Hörkäs.

Sami: There are many guitarists who inspire me, but I will mention a few of them: Steve Lukather, John Frusciante and Timo Kämäräinen.

Riina: Some of my idols: truck fighters, qotsa, Kyuss, Alice in chains and red hot chili peppers.

How often do you come together for the band rehearsal? And how do it work with a blind drummer – especially when you have new drum parts for him or he has and you play it for the first time?

Mikko: We practice quite often because this is a great passion for us and we want to be a solid live band. Everything works fine with Misca. He does the drum arrangements himself and when we go to rehearsal and start playing everything works really well. He is a great talent and I am very proud of him playing in Rylos and he also brings a good groove to our sound.

In autumn you want to realise your new album. How long did you work with the producer/ engineer Anssi Kippo at the Astia Studio together?

Mikko: Great guy, great sessions. We ‚ ll meet him again when we start recording our fifth album.

Misca: Astia- studio sessions  went very well. Anssi is very easy going guy and he gave a bunch of advices to me and all of us.

Sami: The actual recording was made in one day. Anssi is a great guy to work with.

Which music platforms do you use to share your music? Do you have only the digital version of your album or do you want to realise a physical version in the future?

Mikko: Currently digital, but in the future there will also be a physical vinyl box when the Fifth Album is released in early 2022.

Did you have any plans in the future?

Mikko: A lot is coming. This year we are doing a couple of streaming gigs and we will release our fourth album “Solarworks 2” and we are also starting the preproduction of our next album. If everything goes well, we are going to Astia- Studios in spring 2021.

On the 22. June 2020 you play your first live stream. How excited are you? And where can the people watch it?

Mikko: Really cool, I hope we will reach a lot of people in Germany too! Here is the event link: https://www.facebook.com/events/560897614627929/

Thank you very much! Do you have any words to share to our readers?

Mikko: Listen to Rylos and stay on carrots!
