Twilight Force 2023 München

Twilight Force – 05.02.2023 – Backstage München – Konzertbericht

Twilight Force waren schon in Hallen verschiedenster Größe unterwegs.

Silver Bullet

Als Opener hatten sie Silver Bullet im Gepäck. Die Finnen spielten klassischen, etwas düster angehauchten Power Metal. Mit „Shadow of a Curse“ ging es bei hervorragendem Sound los. Besonders gut funktionierte auch „She Holds the Greatest Promise“.

Long Live the King“ wählen.

Toll!

English Version:

Twilight Force have already been on the road in halls of various sizes. No matter if with Gloryhammer at the Backstage Club, with Dragonforce at the Backstage Werk or with Sabaton at the Zenith. Each time they could deliver a great support show. But now it was finally time for their own headlining show.

Silver Bullet

As opener they had Silver Bullet in their luggage. The Finns played classic, somewhat dark power metal. With „Shadow of a Curse“ they started with excellent sound. She Holds the Greatest Promise“ also worked especially well. The band’s historically-inspired costumes fit the music perfectly.

With „The Witches Hammer“ they also had a real hit in the setlist. The chorus here was enthusiastically sung along by the audience. After „Forever Lost“, Silver Bullet were then bid farewell with well-deserved applause.

Seven Spires

A real surprise was the second band Seven Spires. The four Americans around front woman Adrienne Cohen didn’t really fit into today’s line-up. The first song „Gods of Debauchery“ immediately showed the clear melodic death metal influence of the band. Adrienne used almost exclusively growls on this track. However, the following „Oceans of Time“ quickly revealed that she also perfectly mastered power metal vocals.

The only thing that couldn’t keep up with the high quality of the band was the sound. Because at the beginning almost only drums and vocals could be heard. The very special almost circus-like „The Cabaret of Dreams“ let the exceptionality of the band shine through. During „Succumb“ Peter de Reyna played a virtuoso bass solo. Fortunately, the sound was slowly getting better, too.

A real hit was then „Unmapped Darkness“, where Adrienne again gave her growls in the middle. As with every song there was also a great guitar solo from Jack Kosto. But also quiet songs were no problem for Seven Spires, as „In Sickness, in Health“ proved. But the band’s greatest strength remained the combination of hard Melodic Death Metal and epic Symphonic Power Metal as in the extremely catchy „Dare to Live“.

As the last song the band played the more than 10-minute long „This God Is Dead“, where once again all facets of Seven Spires‘ sound came to light. The parts sung in the studio by ex-Kamelot singer Roy Khan were taken over live by Twilight Force guest singer Kristin Starkey. The almost symphonic black metal-like blastbeat passages also gave goosebumps. After this masterpiece it was no wonder that Seven Spires left the stage under thunderous applause. Hopefully there will be a headliner tour soon.

Twilight Force

But in front of all the enthusiasm for Seven Spires one should not forget the headliner of the evening, Twilight Force. They started with the epic „Dawn of the Dragonstar“. Fortunately the sound was very good again now. The not so new frontman Allyon (Alessandro Conti, ex-Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody) was in excellent voice. Also the new band anthem „Twilight Force“ was well received by the audience. The also new „Dragonborn“ continued exactly there. What was completely dispensable, however, were the interspersed parts where keyboardist Blackwald tried to teach the audience various „skills“, such as laughing like an evil wizard. These actions were more embarrassing than funny, as they were probably meant to be. A few more songs on the setlist would have made much more sense.

On the other hand, the action of throwing a huge, inflatable dragon swimming ring into the audience during „Flight of the Sapphire Dragon“ hit the mark. Here the audience had great fun throwing it into the air again and again. For the next song, a fan was brought on stage. He was first knighted by Allyon with a big sword, then he was allowed to choose the next song from a selection of „Enchanted Dragon of Wisdom“ and „Long Live the King“. Fortunately he chose the former, because songs from the grandiose first album had not been heard at all today.

After „Winds of Wisdom“ there was another old song to hear with the smash hit „Twilight Horizon“. Here the band was faced with the problem that the song was originally sung by ex-singer Chrileon, who had a much higher voice than Allyon. But the problem was solved in a clever way. For Allyon simply handed over his mic to guest vocalist Kristin Starkey, who had previously supported him in the background. Now, standing in the foreground, she gave a great performance. Great! After another new („At the Heart of Wintervale“) piece, there was the great 12-minute „Blade of Immortal Steel“ to listen to.

Unfortunately, after the band hit „The Power of the Ancient Force“, which was sung along by the Munich audience, it was already over. And that after only 11 songs! There was no encore either.

But still the memory of a great show remains. All three bands showed themselves afterwards fannah and came out for photos and autographs. Nevertheless, the hope remains that Twilight Force will play a little longer at their next show.
