Die Wurzeln von Warfect lagen in Incoma. Wie kam es zu der Veränderung?
Danke für die Einladung! Nun, wir hatten diese Band, die einen etwas anderen Musikstil spielte. Und wir hatten das Gefühl, dass es Zeit war, sich zu einer anderen Band zu entwickeln mit neuen Songs auf dem Debütalbum. Deshalb haben wir WARFECT „gestartet“ und sozusagen INCOMA zur Ruhe gelegt.
Können wir Incoma als den Beginn von Warfect sehen oder sind das zwei getrennte Bands, aber mit denselben Musikern?
Man könnte sagen, es sind separate Bands, aber mit denselben Musikern.
Seit 2011 seid ihr nur noch zu dritt unterwegs. Wie kam es dazu? Funktioniert die Band so besser?
Nach dem Weggang von Håkan dachten wir, wir versuchen es als Trio, Und haben seitdem nicht mehr zurückgeschaut. Es ist einfach großartig und viel einfacher.
Eure neue Single wird am 13. November 2020 veröffentlicht. Wird sich der Sound von früheren Werken von Warfect und Incoma unterscheiden?
Unser neues Album SPECTER OF DEVASTATION wird am 13. November veröffentlicht und ist ein Evolutino aus unseren beiden vorherigen Alben. Es ist immer noch die gleiche Ader, aber wir haben uns als Musiker und auch als Musikautoren weiterentwickelt. Ich denke, es ist unsere bisher beste Arbeit!
In welchem Song (alle Songs bisher) ist dein Lieblingsgitarrenriff und wie kam es dazu?
Diese Frage ist schwer zu beantworten, aber ich könnte ein bestimmtes Riff erwähnen, das aus dem PESTILENCE-Refrain stammt. Diese zweite Gitarre, die dieses ehrgeizige Ding spielt, war erst in der letzten Minute der Studioaufnahme da. Bis dahin waren es nur Akkorde. Fredrik hat das wie in letzter Minute erfunden und es ist ein absoluter Game Changer für diesen Song, denke ich.
Entstehen die Songs gemeinsam oder gibt es einen kreativen Kopf, der den Grundstein für alles legt?
Normalerweise erhalten wir eine Datei von Fredrik, die oft ein vollständiger Song mit mehreren Gitarren und Computertrommeln ist. Dann proben wir das Lied und probieren ein paar Dinge aus und bewegen sie manchmal. Fredrik ist ein Zauberer, wenn es darum geht, neues brutales Material zu schreiben.
In welchen Momenten bekommst du die größte Inspiration für neue Songs?
Ich schaue viele Dokumentarfilme und wenn ich etwas im Fernsehen sehe, das mich interessiert und ich denke, dass es gut zu der Band passt, schreibe ich es auf. Später nehme ich meine Notizen und wenn es sich immer noch richtig anfühlt, beginne ich über dieses spezielle Thema zu schreiben.
Die Songs werden direkt von der Band gemischt und aufgenommen. Frederik , wie schwierig ist es für dich, all die verschiedenen „Jobs“ in der Band in Einklang zu bringen?
Ich denke, es funktioniert ziemlich gut. Das meiste ist offensichtlich, weil wir in verschiedenen Dingen gut sind und zum Glück die meisten „Positionen“ besetzen, die für die Band benötigt werden.
Was war die am weitesten entfernte Bühne, auf der Ihr bisher gespielt habt? Und wie hat es sich angefühlt, dort aufzutreten?
Bisher sind wir nur in Europa aufgetreten und in diesen Ländern ist es ziemlich ähnlich. Es wäre cool, an Orten wie Russland oder Südamerika zu spielen und das könnte natürlich in Zukunft passieren.
Gibt es eine andere Band, zu der ihr aufschaust? Welche und warum?
Natürlich, viele Bands. Wir sind inspiriert von den Thrash-Bands der späten 80er und frühen 90er Jahre. Slayer und Sepultura sind zwei davon. Wenn wir mehr im größeren Sinne aufblicken reden, gibt es Giganten wie Judas Priest, die sich über Jahrzehnte zu den Giganten hochgearbeitet haben, die sie heute sind. Und die Menschen auf der ganzen Welt mit ihrer Musik so viel gegeben haben. So viel Qualität über so viele Jahre.

Warfect’s roots were in Incoma. How did this change come about?
Thanks for having me! Well, we had this band playing a little different kind of musical style and we felt it was time to evolve into another band with the news songs on the debut album. That’s why we „started“ WARFECT snd laid to rest INCOMA so to speak.
Can we see Incoma as the beginning of Warfect or are these two separate bands but with the same musicians?
You could say they are separate bands but with the same musicians.
Since 2011 there are only three of you on the road. How did this come? Does the band work better that way?
After the departure of Håkan we thought we’d try being a three-piece and haven’t looked back since. It’s just awesome and so much simpler.
Your new single should be released on November 13th, 2020. Will the sound differ from previous works by Warfect and Incoma?
Our new album SPECTRE OF DEVASTATION will be released on Nov 13 and it’s an evolutino from our two previous albums. It’s still the same vein but we’ve evolved as musicians and also music writers. I think it’s our best work yet!
In which song (all songs so far) is your favorite guitar riff and how did it come about?
That’s a hard question to answer but I could mention one particular riff and it’s the one from the PESTILENCE chorus. That second guitar plaiying that ambious thing wasn’t actually there until the absolute last minute oft he studio recording. It was just chords until then. Fredrik made that up like last minute and it’s an absolute game changer for that song I think.
Do the songs arise in your collective or is there a creative head who lays the foundation for everything?
Usually we get a file sent to us by Fredrik which often is a full song with multiple guitars and computer drums. Then we rehearse the song and try out a few things and sometimes move things around. Fredrik is the wiz when it comes to writing new brutal material.
In which moments you get the greatest inspiration for new songs?
I watch a lot of documentaries and when I see something on TV that interests me and I feel it’s a good fit for the band I write it down. Later on I pick up my notes and if it still feel right I start writing about that specific subject.
The songs are mixed and recorded directly from within the band. Frederik (singer / guitarist), how difficult is it for you to reconcile all the different “jobs” in the band?
I think it works out pretty well. Most of the stuff is like obvious becuse we’re good at different things and luckily we fill out most of the „positions“ needed for the band.
What was the furthest stage that you have been allowed to play on so far and how did it feel to perform there?
So far we’ve only performed in Europe and it’s pretty much the same in those contries. It would be cool to play in places like Russia or South America and that might of course happen in the future.
Is there any other band you look up to? Which one and why?
Lot’s of bands of course. We are inspired by the thrash bands of late -80s and early -90s. Slayer and Sepulture are two of them obviously. If we are talking more about looking up to in the grander sense of things you’ve got giants like Judas Priest who have worked their way into the behemoths they are today over decades and given so much to people over the world with their music. So much quality over so many years.
